Today is the second day running of Bounce Ball experimentation. It is the highly acclaimed and much anticipated Spirulina and Ginseng that grabbed my fancy!
I love the vibrant green pack and love the healthy nutritional listing! Yes; around 10% of the recommended daily calorific intake, good fats from delicious almonds, a decent amount of carbohydrate to keep you going during exercise, fibrous oats, 10% of your daily recommended protein and barely a grain of salt. Excellent! Really, all ‘energy’ or ‘health’ bars should be as positively nutritious but too many contain too much sugar or are so low calorie you’d keel after ten sit ups.
Spirulina and Ginseng
So, what of the main event, the spirulina? What is it? What is ginseng?
Spirulina is a swamp green algae that can be consumed by humans. It is a whole food that may be used as a dietary supplement – whole, or in tablet, flake or powder form – to provide protein, vitamins and minerals. Vitamins B1 (thiamin) and B2 (riboflavin) are most prevalent, alongside iron and manganese. For more information, follow this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirulina_(dietary_supplement)
Ginseng is a green perennial plant and is nature’s equivalent of an energy tablet. A natural aphrodisiac, it is commonly found in energy drinks and bars. It is also available in tablet or powder form.
The Ball
This is the most unusual and exciting looking Bounce Ball to date; lovely dark chunks of unpeeled, un-messed-about-with almond and a dark and very healthy looking greenish black poking through the nutty chunks. To me, this spells spirulina. To some, this would spell fear!
The oats (12%) are an unusual feature of the Bounce; though they are present in the majority of the other seven I have tried, they are far less prominent, often undetectable. There is a distinctly flapjack-like overtone here which will delight many. Beneath the sweet, sweet almonds – clearly ‘good quality almonds’ – there is another familiar sweetness I love… raisins! I am pleased I am unable to taste the sesame seeds as, though a pleasant seed, they throw out an unmistakably overpowering flavour at the best of times and what a shame it would be if the deliciousness of this Ball were usurped by their oily bitterness.
To conclude
Bounce Balls are outrageously brilliant for their health benefits, natural energy and portability. They are, with good reason, favoured by athletes, sports people and endurance hobbyists. If you are a fan of almonds, try this one; it is really delicious and will make you feel brilliant!
